Cardinal Adam Maida, archbishop of Detroit, representatives of the Augustinian Fathers, Macomb Township officials, interested parents, and future students will participate in a Groundbreaking Ceremony for the new Austin Catholic Academy in Macomb Township.
The ceremony will begin with brief presentations at 2 p.m. on Thursday, February 14, in the gathering area of St. Isidore Catholic Church, 18201 23 Mile Road, Macomb Township. Transportation will then be provided to the building site on the north side of 23 Mile Road, just west of North Avenue.
At the building site, Cardinal Maida will bless the land, turn over the first shovel, and sign memorabilia. Transportation will then be provided back to St. Isidore Church, where a reception will be held.
Plans call for the coeducational Austin Catholic Academy to be built on 107 acres of land provided by the Archdiocese of Detroit. The first freshman high school students could start classes in September of 2009. One grade will be added each year until Austin has an enrollment of 800 students.
