Homosexuality

"…The number of men and women who have…homosexual tendencies is not negligible…they must be accepted with respect, compassion and sensitivity.  Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided.  These persons are called to fulfill God's will in their lives…"

Catechism of the Catholic Church #2358

If you or someone you know has a homosexual orientation you need not face this journey alone

As 'domestic church', a fundamental role of family is to help each and every member believe that they are "God's beloved".  The Archdiocese, along with the United States Bishops, recognizes that due to the diverse circumstances of life today,  families may need support to live out God's covenantal relationship of unconditional love.  The Office for Family Ministry seeks to reach out in solidarity to gay and lesbian individuals, their parents and family members so that they may:

  • Recognize that they are not alone, and find support among other Catholic families dealing with this issue.
  • Come to know and better understand the Church's teaching on homosexuality and believe they are welcome within the Christian community.
