Regulations

(Executive Athletic Board approved September 2026)

Regular Season

1. Varsity games will start no later than 8:15 p.m. If any other time is arranged, it must first be approved by the League Director, who will in turn assign the officials. No more than 15 minutes will be allowed for varsity warm up and 10 minutes for sub-varsity team to warm up.
2. Sub varsity contests in Ohio will be seven-minute quarters.
3. When competing in Ohio OHSAA member schools will follow number of quarter rules at the sub-varsity level.
4. No changes may be made in any league schedule unless it is first approved by the League Director.
5. The League Office will assign all home league contest officials.
6. Each school is responsible for furnishing trained adult scorers and timers for each game. They should also wear some identifying apparel, such as jacket, shirt or cap. Scorers and timers should sit together at the scorer’s table, and should confer with game officials before the game to see if they are in agreement on all procedures.
7. All coaches should be reminded of their game decorum. Physical or verbal abuse of officials will not be tolerated. Suspension, by the Director, may result. Infractions reported to the League Office may require the coach to appear before the League Director.
8. If, in the judgment of the game referee, the records of the official scorer or timer are not satisfactory, he may designate someone else to perform such duties.

Final Standings Tiebreaker

In case of a tie between two or more teams for playoff seeding, upon completion of the league schedule, the winner will be decided by the 15-point system.

1. If two (2) teams are tied in the standings at the end of regular season league play, the winner/higher seed will be the team which won the game played between the two schools.
2. If the two or more teams are tied in the standings at the end of the regular season league play, the winner/higher seed will be decided by comparing the margin of victory up to 15-point system in the contests between the tied schools only. Loss equals zero points.

Example:

Team A 67 vs Team B 56 (Team A would be +9)

Team B 42 vs Team C 23 (Team B would be +15)

Team A 68 vs Team C 71 (Team C would be +3)

Team B would be declared the winner/higher seed, followed by Team A, and finally Team C

1. If a tie still exists, then the 15-point system of all common league opponents will be used. Loss equals zero points.
2. If a tie still exists after the previous steps, then coin flip will determine the winner of the tie. The League Director will organize the coin flip.

Playoffs & Championships

The Catholic High School League office will secure venues for contests played at a neutral site. All playoff and championship dates are subject to change based on facility availability.
