girls Basketball Regulations

Regulations

  1. Varsity games will start no later than 8:15 p.m. Reserve games will start at 6:00 p.m. for Boys; 5:30 p.m. for Girls. If any other time is arranged, it must first be approved by the League Director, who will in turn assign the officials. No more than 20 minutes will be allowed for a team to warm up. Freshmen games will be played on Saturdays at 11:00 a.m., or as approved by the League Director.
  2. Have referees approve and sign scorebook at half-time and at the end of each game, so that the coach may rate them for the State and League. Have the necessary money ready, at game time, to pay officials.
  3. No changes may be made in any league schedule, unless it is first approved by the League Director.
  4. The League Office will assign all home league contest officials. Officials will be assigned to non-league games by request of the school, well in advance of the contest.
  5. Each school is responsible for furnishing trained adult scorers and timers for each game. Cards identifying these persons should be plainly visible on the scorers table. They should also wear some identifying apparel, such as jacket, shirt or cap. Scorers and timers should sit together, at the scorers table, and should confer with game officials before the game to see if they are in agreement on all procedures.
  6. All coaches should be reminded of their game decorum. Physical or verbal abuse to officials will not be tolerated. Suspension, by the Director, may result. Infractions reported to the League Office shall require the coach to appear before the League Director.
  7. If, in the judgment of the game referee, the records of the official scorer or timer are not satisfactory, he may designate someone else to perform such duties. Protests regarding games in which high school students have been permitted to act as timekeepers and scorer will not be considered.
  8. The CHSL shall use the coaches box for all league and playoff games. "The head coach may be off the bench in front of his or her seat within the confines of the designated coaches' box to give instructions to his or her players and/or substitutes." The Coaching Box privilege is given up for that game if any bench personnel receives a technical foul for unsportsmanlike conduct. (Board approved, 4-30-91)
  9. The official scorer is required to wear a black-and-white vertically striped garment.
Rationale: The players, coaches and officials need to be able to quickly and easily identify the official scorer. Requiring the scorer to wear a striped garment will assist in this regard. In addition, wearing a striped garment will make the scorer look more professional.
