BELLEVILLE, MI – July 2025 – The Michigan High School Coaches Association (MHSCA), the professional organization for school coaches and athletic directors, has named Mr. Vic Michaels of the Catholic High School League as the recipient of the 2025 Jack Johnson Distinguished Service Award Honoree. Mr. Michaels will be presented with this prestigious award during the annual MHSCA Hall of Fame induction ceremony on September 14, 2025, at Central Michigan University.

This honor celebrates Mr. Michaels' outstanding contributions to high school sports. As the Director of the Catholic High School League, his commitment to both school and community has been exemplary. Nominations and selections for this award come from sport associations and through the MHSCA, with criteria based on years of program performance and significant contributions to sport, school, and community. Mr. Michaels' selection reflects his unwavering dedication and positive impact.

The award's namesake, Coach Jack Johnson, was a former President and the third Executive Director of the MHSCA. Johnson was a revered teacher, coach, and athletic director at Dearborn High School. His devoted service to interscholastic athletics was extensive, including coaching five state championship swim teams, serving as the Swim Coaches Association Treasurer, presiding over the Michigan Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association, and organizing conference committees for 34 years. He remains a model for all individuals working with student athletes and in sports across Michigan.

The MHSCA, a 70-year-old association with nearly 15,000 members, serves athletic administrators and coaches in high schools and junior high/middle schools throughout Michigan. The organization is dedicated to promoting the educational value of interscholastic athletics and enhancing the roles of athletic administrators and coaches. The MHSCA is proud to recognize Mr. Vic Michaels, whose work and values perfectly align with the association's mission.
