Baseball Season Preview

As the spring sports season begins, Catholic High School League baseball programs once again prepare for another competitive and exciting year across the diamond. With strong returning programs and talented newcomers throughout the league, the 2026 CHSL baseball season promises to showcase the depth and tradition of one of Michigan’s premier high school leagues.

The CHSL baseball schedule features competition across several divisions, including the Central, AA, and Intersectional divisions, giving student-athletes opportunities to compete against top programs throughout southeast Michigan and beyond.

Central Division Outlook

The Central Division again figures to be one of the most competitive in the state. Birmingham Brother Rice enters the season as the defending CHSL Bishop champion after defeating Toledo St. John’s Jesuit in last year’s title game.

Programs such as Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Prep, Detroit Catholic Central, De La Salle Collegiate, and St. John’s Jesuit continue to be among the premier baseball programs in the region and are expected to contend for league honors once again. With strong pitching staffs and experienced lineups across the division, the race for the Bishop Championship should remain tightly contested throughout the spring.

AA Division Outlook

The AA Division has become increasingly competitive in recent seasons. Dearborn Divine Child captured last year’s championship with a victory over Lutheran North, highlighting the balanced competition throughout the division.

Teams such as Jackson Lumen Christi, Marine City Cardinal Mooney, and other Cardinal Division programs will look to challenge for the title as the season unfolds.

Intersectional Division Outlook

The Intersectional Division continues to provide opportunities for emerging programs to make their mark within the league. Ann Arbor Greenhills claimed the most recent Ste. Anne championship with a dramatic victory over Royal Oak Shrine, demonstrating the parity and competitiveness found across the division.

As younger programs continue to develop talent, the Ste. Anne Division remains an important pathway for future CHSL contenders.

The Catholic High School League, founded in 1926 and consisting of schools throughout southeast Michigan, has long been recognized as one of the premier athletic leagues in the country.
