Congratulations
The Catholic High School League Cardinal Division Track & Field Championships showcased outstanding performances from across the league, as teams and individuals battled for division titles and CHSL honors. The meet featured dominant relay performances, thrilling distance races, and several athletes climbing the CHSL record books.
On the girls side, Orchard Lake St. Mary’s captured the Cardinal Division championship with 168 points, powered by a balanced lineup and strong relay performances. Macomb Lutheran North finished runner-up with 117 points, followed by Jackson Lumen Christi with 73.
The Eaglets were led by standout performances from Vonessa Gonzales, who won the 200-meter dash in 26.19, and Carina Ogle, who captured the 800-meter run in 2:25.25 while also helping lead multiple relay victories. Orchard Lake St. Mary’s also swept the sprint relays, winning the 4x100 relay in 51.59, the 4x200 relay in 1:46.69, and the 4x400 relay in 4:06.44.
Jackson Lumen Christi distance standout Samantha Schroeder turned in one of the top performances of the meet, winning both the 1600-meter run (5:20.61) and 3200-meter run (11:26.70).
Additional girls champions included:
* Elliana Nothdurft of Macomb Lutheran North in the 100-meter dash (12.79)
* Samantha Whitlam of Macomb Lutheran North in the 400-meter dash (1:00.55)
* Peyton Raynish of Orchard Lake St. Mary’s in both hurdle events
* Eby Nosike of Cranbrook Kingswood in the shot put
* Ella Selakowski of Orchard Lake St. Mary’s in the discus
* Emily Rosenberg of Cranbrook Kingswood in the long jump
On the boys side, Macomb Lutheran North edged Ann Arbor Fr. Gabriel Richard for the Cardinal Division title, scoring 140.5 points to Fr. Gabriel Richard’s 128. Jackson Lumen Christi placed third with 80 points.
Macomb Lutheran North was paced by distance star Joshua Macri, who won the 800-meter run (1:58.82), 1600-meter run (4:33.47), and 3200-meter run (10:04.36). The Mustangs also captured the 4x800 relay championship in 8:37.36.
Toledo Central Catholic sprint sensation Khary Carson II swept the short sprints, winning the 100-meter dash in 10.79 and the 200-meter dash in 22.42. The Irish also dominated the relay events, winning the 4x100 relay (43.69), 4x200 relay (1:32.07), and 4x400 relay (3:30.71).
Jackson Lumen Christi’s Johnny Walters claimed the 400-meter championship in 50.02, while teammate Tay Williams won the 300-meter hurdles in 43.60.
Additional boys champions included:
* Greg Glaser of Macomb Lutheran North in the 110-meter hurdles and long jump
* Matt Mazur of Ann Arbor Fr. Gabriel Richard in the shot put
* Gavin Gasior of Ann Arbor Fr. Gabriel Richard in the discus
* Gurmilan Singh of Jackson Lumen Christi in the high jump
Several athletes posted performances that now rank among the top Cardinal Division performances in recent CHSL history. While no CHSL records were officially broken at this year’s meet, the championships featured numerous personal-best marks and showcased the depth of talent throughout the league.
