Field Hockey

The Catholic High School League field hockey postseason gets underway Tuesday, September 29, as eight teams begin their pursuit of Bishop and Cardinal championship honors.

Both tournaments will feature semifinal action on Tuesday before the championship games are played Saturday, October 3. The Cardinal Championship is scheduled for 3 p.m., followed by the Bishop Championship at 5 p.m.

Bishop Championship

The Bishop Championship semifinals feature four programs with plenty of CHSL field hockey tradition.

Farmington Hills Mercy will meet Detroit Country Day at 4 p.m. on September 29, while Birmingham Marian faces Ann Arbor Fr. Gabriel Richard at 5:30 p.m. The winners advance to Saturday's Bishop Championship game at 5 p.m.

Mercy and Marian are no strangers to championship success. Mercy captured the Bishop title in 2021, while Marian won the Bishop Championship in 2023 and has a long history of CHSL field hockey championships dating back well before the league adopted its current Bishop and Cardinal format.

Fr. Gabriel Richard also brings significant postseason experience, particularly from its remarkable run in the Cardinal Championship. The Fighting Irish won four consecutive Cardinal titles from 2021 through 2024 before moving into this year's Bishop field.

With defending Bishop champion University Liggett not appearing in this year's Bishop bracket, the league is guaranteed to crown a different Bishop champion in 2026. Liggett had captured the title in each of the previous two seasons.

Cardinal Championship

The Cardinal semifinals will also be played September 29.

Warren Regina faces Ann Arbor Greenhills at 4 p.m., followed by Wixom St. Catherine of Siena Academy against defending Cardinal champion Bloomfield Hills Academy of the Sacred Heart at 5:30 p.m. The two semifinal winners will meet for the Cardinal Championship on Saturday, October 3 at 3 p.m.

Academy of the Sacred Heart enters the postseason looking to defend its 2025 championship. The Gazelles also won the Cardinal title in 2020 and captured the league championship in 2015 before the Bishop-Cardinal format was established.

St. Catherine of Siena also has championship history. The Stars won the Cardinal Championship in 2019 and captured the Division II championship in 2018.

With four teams looking to earn their way into Saturday's final, the Cardinal bracket offers another opportunity for both established programs and new contenders to add their names to the CHSL championship record book.

Championship Saturday

The semifinal winners will come together Saturday, October 3, for the first field hockey championships of the Catholic High School League's Centennial year.

The Cardinal Championship begins at 3 p.m., with the Bishop Championship following at 5 p.m.

As the CHSL celebrates 100 years during the 2026-27 school year, the field hockey championships will add two more teams to a history that has featured some of the league's most successful and tradition-rich programs.

Cardinal Semifinals — Tuesday, September 29
Regina vs. Greenhills — 4 p.m.
St. Catherine of Siena Academy vs. Academy of the Sacred Heart — 5:30 p.m.

Championships — Saturday, October 3
Cardinal Championship — 3 p.m.
Bishop Championship — 5 p.m.

Championship games will be played at The Hawk in Farmington Hills.  Admission is $10, cash only, for both games.
