In Memoriam: Vic Michaels

November 9, 1954 – December 29, 2025

The Catholic High School League mourns the passing of its beloved Director and CHSL LEGEND, Vic Michaels, who entered eternal life on December 29, 2025, at the age of 71.

Vic dedicated his life to Catholic education, interscholastic athletics, and the young people entrusted to his care. His leadership of the CHSL was marked by integrity, vision, humility, and an unwavering belief that athletics are an extension of the classroom—meant to form the whole person in faith, character, discipline, and service.

For decades, Vic was a steady and trusted presence across not only the CHSL but the entire state. He was a champion for student-athletes, coaches, officials, and administrators, always guided by the mission of Catholic education and the belief that competition should reflect respect, sportsmanship, and Gospel values. His decisions were thoughtful, his counsel wise, and his love for the educational athletics unmistakable.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Vic was a man of deep faith and quiet generosity. He led not for recognition, but out of genuine care for others. He mentored countless colleagues, encouraged young leaders, and strengthened the CHSL community through his calm leadership and servant’s heart. His legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched and the standards of excellence he upheld.

Vic is survived by his loving family, to whom the entire CHSL community extends its deepest sympathy and prayers. We are grateful for the gift of his life, and for the many years he devoted to serving Catholic schools and student-athletes.

May God grant Vic Michaels eternal rest, and may perpetual light shine upon him.
