Jul 8, 2026

The Catholic High School League (CHSL) is pleased to announce the hiring of Marc Michaels as the League's new Associate Director, bringing home a lifelong member of the CHSL family whose professional experience, commitment to Catholic education, and passion for high school athletics will help lead the League into its centennial year and beyond.

A graduate of Harper Woods Notre Dame High School, Michaels returns to the Catholic High School League after beginning his career in the League office as an Administrative Assistant from 2001-2003, where he helped coordinate championship events and worked alongside athletic directors in scheduling and league operations. Since then, he has built an accomplished career in sports business, most recently serving as Senior Manager of Licensed Regional Accounts for adidas, overseeing national sales initiatives and developing strategic partnerships across the country.

Michaels earned his bachelor's degree in Sport Management from the University of Michigan School of Kinesiology and has remained deeply connected to Catholic athletics through years of volunteer coaching and youth sports leadership at St. Joan of Arc Parish.

Marc and his wife, Lia, a graduate of Regina High School, are the proud parents of two sons, Victor and Evan. The family are parishioners at St. Joan of Arc Parish.

"It is an incredible honor to be named Associate Director of the Detroit Catholic High School League," said Michaels. "As a proud product of the CHSL, I look forward to building upon the foundation established by the legends who came before me, especially Walt Bazylewicz, Tom Rashid, and my dad, Vic Michaels. Their selfless, faith-based leadership has always put student-athletes first and helped make the CHSL one of the most respected leagues in all of Michigan, if not the country.

"I am deeply grateful to Mike Evoy and the Archdiocese for this tremendous opportunity. I look forward to serving our schools, our student-athletes, and the CHSL community with the same commitment, integrity, and faith that have long defined this League."

Eric Haley, Superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Archdiocese of Detroit, expressed his enthusiasm for the appointment.

"Marc's professional experience, passion for athletics, and lifelong connection to Catholic education make him an outstanding addition to the Catholic High School League. His understanding of the important role faith-based athletics play in the formation of young people positions him well to lead and serve our member schools. We are delighted to welcome Marc back to the Archdiocese of Detroit in this role and look forward to the many ways he will contribute to the future of the CHSL."

CHSL Director Mike Evoy believes Michaels' background uniquely positions him to help shape the League's future while honoring its storied past.

"Marc is an outstanding addition to the CHSL office. His strong work ethic, exceptional communication skills, and servant-leadership mindset will help guide the League as we celebrate our centennial year and continue building for the future. As a product of the CHSL, Marc has a deep appreciation for the League's rich history, traditions, and mission, making him uniquely prepared to help shape its next chapter."

As the Catholic High School League prepares to celebrate its 100th anniversary during the 2026-27 school year, Michaels joins the League office at a historic moment. His experience in athletics, business leadership, and Catholic education, combined with his lifelong connection to the CHSL, will strengthen the League's mission of developing student-athletes through faith, competition, and character.
