Track Bishop Champions
The CHSL Bishop Track Championship delivered a thrilling finish on Saturday at Detroit Catholic Central, with the boys' title coming down to the very last event.
In the most dramatic conclusion possible, St. Francis De Sales edged out host Detroit Catholic Central by just two points — 128 to 126 — to claim the boys’ team championship. St. John's Jesuit wasn’t far behind either, finishing third with 116 points.
The tension was palpable as the teams lined up for the final event, the 4x400 meter relay. With only a narrow margin separating the top two contenders, every leg and exchange mattered. While individual results for the relay weren’t listed, the final tally confirmed that De Sales had done just enough to secure the championship.
On the girls' side, St. Ursula Academy of Toledo dominated, racking up 161 points to secure the Bishop Championship title. They were followed by Notre Dame Academy (Toledo) with 136.5 points and Farmington Hills Mercy with 122.
Standout performances included:
-
Samson Gash (Detroit Catholic Central) winning the boys 100m in 10.79 seconds.
-
Caleb Kelly (St. John's Jesuit) doubling in the sprints with wins in both the 200m and top placements in the 100m.
-
Aubrey Wilson (Divine Child) winning the girls 100m and 200m convincingly.
-
Taryn Henderson (Mercy) taking the girls 400m in a personal best 56.37 seconds.
With fierce competition across sprints, distance, and field events, this year’s CHSL Bishop Championship delivered on every level — and left fans eagerly awaiting next season.
