Operation Friendship Boys Basketball

4:30 pm - Brother Rice versus Cass Tech

Going as far back as 1947, the Catholic High School League (CHSL) and Detroit Public School League (PSL) have competed in Boys' Basketball for the title of “City Champion”. This year will be no different when the CHSL and PSL champions meet this Friday, March 3.

Hosted at historic Calihan Hall on the campus of the University of Detroit Mercy, two contests will be played. The first contest, at 3 pm, will feature the CHSL runner-up, U of D Jesuit, versus PSL runner-up, Martin Luther King H.S. The Cubs of U of D Jesuit enter the contest with a record of 17-4 and ranked sixth in Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) Division 1 Michigan Power Ratings (MPR). The Crusaders of Martin Luther King High School finished the season ranked twenty-first in MHSAA MPR Division 1 with an overall record of 12-7.

The city championship will feature MHSAA MPR second-ranked team in Division 1 and CHSL champion, Brother Rice versus the PSL champion and third-ranked MHSAA MPR Cass Tech. The Warriors of Brother Rice finished the season 20-1, while Cass Tech enters the game with a record of 21-0. This game will tip at approximately 4:30 pm.
